LEGOLAND Windsor Model Marker’s Studio First Look

We had the good fortune of visiting LEGOLAND Windsor Resort yesterday, which nicely coincided with opening of the park’s latest attraction – the Model Maker’s Studio. If you’ve visited the park before you’ll have seen the Master Model Builders busily working away upstairs near the LEGO Star Wars Miniland section, hidden within the clearance part of the store.

With the LEGO Star Wars attraction newly updated for the 2016 season, the upstairs area of the Star Wars store has now been given an impressive makeover, part museum, part art gallery, with the Model Maker’s workshop at it’s heart. As soon as you reach the top of the stairs, you are greeted with a giant display wall, featuring a number of Miniland-scale figures and builds. I’ll admit I’ve never really been a fan of the Miniland-scale figures compared to minifigure, but getting to see them up close in this fashion has completely changed my mind on them.

Around the walkway area there’s a number of busts of famous figures from the Royal family to Darth Vader, again getting to see them up close helps you to appreciate the work the Model Makers put into the park’s many displays. Opposite the busts are a number of brick-built artworks. Giving the area an art gallery feel. At various times throughout the day, some of the model makers, give a little talk about their work at the park.

But for me the best part of the new area is the historical items from The LEGO Groups long history and a few interesting facts about the brand. Some of The LEGO Group’s early toys are on display including their famous wooden duck and there’s also a LEGO element mould on display too. These are complemented by a timeline of LEGOLAND Windsor Resorts history, nicely timed to accompany the park’s 20th anniversary. It charts some of the parks highlights since it opened in 1996.

This area of the park often felt lost and unloved, despite being located in a very popular area. So it’s great to see it be turned into something so impressive. Now it’s a must visit area of the park, so if you’re planning a trip to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, this season make sure you head to the new Model Maker’s Studio located upstairs within the LEGO Star Wars Miniland area. To book tickets to the park and to find out more about other attractions please visit here.
